A POSTMODERN/RHETORICAL ADVENTURE THROUGH THE GOSPEL OF JOHN IN SHAKESPEAREAN SONNET FORM

GOSPEL OF BOKE {78 of 154} -- by BOKE (duh!)

{GOB_78_01}   CLACK. JESUS RAISES LAZARUS: TAKE 2

{GOB_78_02}   Two sisters (Martha, Mary) send a note

{GOB_78_03}   to Jesus to beseech him: "He that you

{GOB_78_04}   love well, our brother Laz'rus is ... " (they wrote ...

{GOB_78_05}   ... from Bethany, Judaea) " ... deathly ill."

{GOB_78_06}   AS JESUS READ, HE SAID: "Death won't prevail.

{GOB_78_07}   This sickness is for story / Not to kill.

{GOB_78_08}   Illuminate God's Son / A bright detail."

{GOB_78_09}   (As was required for story) CHRIST stayed in

{GOB_78_10}   the town they're in for two days, then said: "Let

{GOB_78_11}   us go into Judaea once again."

{GOB_78_12}   DISCIPLES: "They will stone you! D'you forget?"

{GOB_78_13}   NOW, Jesus first response is never straight.

{GOB_78_14}   Not plain, but paralogic / Plain will wait. {>>>}

GOSPEL OF BOKE {79 of 154} -- by BOKE (duh!)

{GOB_79_01}   CHRIST GOES: "Aren't there twelve hours in a day?

{GOB_79_02}   A man who walks in daylight does not trip

{GOB_79_03}   because he has the sun{Son!} to light his way.

{GOB_79_04}   But walking in the dark, a man will slip ...

{GOB_79_05}   ... because he has no light inside of him. /

{GOB_79_06}   Dear Lazarus is sleeping, but I'll go

{GOB_79_07}   and wake him." // THE DISCIPLES missed the limb{limn}:

{GOB_79_08}   "Just sleeping!" / "He'll be fine!" / "That's good to know!"

{GOB_79_09}   CHRIST SMILES/SHIFTS paralogic down to plain:

{GOB_79_10}   "He's dead." / I'm glad he is / so you can see

{GOB_79_11}   what happens -- brand belief into your brain.

{GOB_79_12}   In any case it's time to go. SHALL WE?"

{GOB_79_13}   Then THOMAS (nicknamed Didymous) cracked wise:

{GOB_79_14}   "YES, LET'S all go, so EVERYBODY dies!"

GOSPEL OF BOKE {80 of 154} -- by BOKE (duh!)

{GOB_80_01}   JUDAEA/BETHANY Four days have past

{GOB_80_02}   since Lazarus has died and lain entombed,

{GOB_80_03}   when JESUS and DISCIPLES come at last.

{GOB_80_04}   Two miles away, Jerusalem has bloomed ...

{GOB_80_05}   ... with sympathy, and many Jews are here

{GOB_80_06}   to comfort Laz'rus' family. STAGE SET

{GOB_80_07}   for Laz'rus' resurrection. [More, we fear

{GOB_80_08}   'cause we all know how messy these things get ...

{GOB_80_09}   ... from Buffy's bloody-knuckled casket rent. //

{GOB_80_10}   GOD/LAWYERS SCOWL and so we move along.]

{GOB_80_11}   When MARTHA heard that Jesus came, she went

{GOB_80_12}   to meet Him: "I know you can fix what's wrong...

{GOB_80_13}   ... Whatever You ask God to do, He'll do."

{GOB_80_14}   [SWEET COW MOOS: "Ditto that. I know it's true."]

GOSPEL OF BOKE {81 of 154} -- by BOKE (duh!)

{GOB_81_01}   (To Martha) JESUS SAYS: "Laz'rus will rise."

{GOB_81_02}   Now, MARTHA, knowing her theology

{GOB_81_03}   (too well, perhaps) says: "Yes Lord, when time flies

{GOB_81_04}   to resurrection day, I know that he ..."

{GOB_81_05}   But JESUS sees she's ' grooving ' in her head:

{GOB_81_06}   "I AM the resurrection and the life.

{GOB_81_07}   He that believes in Me, though he were dead

{GOB_81_08}   yet shall he live and never die ... " [TEXT KNIFE ...

{GOB_81_09}   ... CUTS HERE to not molest the Jesus weave

{GOB_81_10}   with Paris Hilton but blow her a kiss.]

{GOB_81_11}   "... AND WHOSOEVER liveth and believe

{GOB_81_12}   in Me shall never die. / Believe thou this?"

{GOB_81_13}   "Yea, Lord, I do believe you are the Christ,

{GOB_81_14}   the Son of God, who should ..." [THIS SONNET'S SPLICED ...

GOSPEL OF BOKE {82 of 154} -- by BOKE (duh!)

{GOB_82_01}   ... WITH THIS ONE] "... come into the world." And when

{GOB_82_02}   she had so said, she went her way to ' call '

{GOB_82_03}   to sister Mary ' secretly ' / [By pen?

{GOB_82_04}   By cellphone? King James' writers dropped the ball! ...

{GOB_82_05}   // WHILE BOKE is suff'ring Crisis-of-the-Text,

{GOB_82_06}   THE MONKEY-BOT takes over for awhile ... ]

{GOB_82_07}   SO ... Martha monkey-signed to Mary next:

{GOB_82_08}   "Come here / Son top banana want your smile."

{GOB_82_09}   So Mary go / see Jesus / People see

{GOB_82_10}   her leave her tree / Think grave! / She go / They wrong!

{GOB_82_11}   Same ol' / Same ol' / Confusion! / Up wrong tree!

{GOB_82_12}   No / Mary go / see Jesus /Mary-song:

{GOB_82_13}   "Why Jesus? Why / no come in time / Too late!

{GOB_82_14}   The cow / long gone / four days / Why you / shut gate?

GOSPEL OF BOKE {83 of 154} -- by BOKE (duh!)

{GOB_83_01}   [GOD SMILES and sends sweet Monkey into space

{GOB_83_02}   in his new flying saucer ... just to play.

{GOB_83_03}   "DEAR BOKE, you must not make a fed'ral case

{GOB_83_04}   of ev'ry text'al blip. Alright?" // "OK."]

{GOB_83_05}   So Mary falls at Jesus' feet and cries.

{GOB_83_06}   And Jews who came with her are crying, too.

{GOB_83_07}   And Jesus, seeing all this weeping, fries

{GOB_83_08}   a circuit somehow in his neural stew ...

{GOB_83_09}   ... of GOD/MAN interchanges ... and He groaned

{GOB_83_10}   in God's own Spirit -- troubled by their grief.

{GOB_83_11}   Their utter faithlessness had now re-zoned

{GOB_83_12}   the Happy Resurrection into BRIEF:

{GOB_83_13}   "How Thoughtless Jesus Let Poor Laz'rus Die."

{GOB_83_14}   Bad Jesus! All we're left to do is cry.

GOSPEL OF BOKE {84 of 154} -- by BOKE (duh!)

{GOB_84_01}   SWEET COW moos once, and stares at Boke. // What now?

{GOB_84_02}   OK, that may not capture perfectly

{GOB_84_03}   the essence of the moment -- But, Sweet Cow,

{GOB_84_04}   just why that Jesus cries is hard to see.

{GOB_84_05}   SEE: "JESUS WEPT." That's one whole line of verse.

{GOB_84_06}   (Eleventh chapter / John / Verse 35)

{GOB_84_07}   Perhaps from empathy -- or something worse --

{GOB_84_08}   from anger or frustration. Man alive! ...

{GOB_84_09}   ... Or God alive! (Boke squints) It's hard to tell

{GOB_84_10}   what could be going on inside that blend.

{GOB_84_11}   Whatever! / It's not going near as well

{GOB_84_12}   as was expected. Though it might offend ...

{GOB_84_13}   ... the concept of a God you can't surprise.

{GOB_84_14}   But how else to explain Christ's tear-filled eyes.

GOSPEL OF BOKE {85 of 154} -- by BOKE (duh!)

{GOB_85_01}   "CHRIST WEPT." The greatest mystery of all?

{GOB_85_02}   Or something in his eye / a speck of dust?

{GOB_85_03}   The humanness of Jesus in a ball

{GOB_85_04}   to bounce against the rock of faith and trust.

{GOB_85_05}   THE TIMING: When exactly did he cry?

{GOB_85_06}   "Where have you laid him?" // ANSWER: "Come and see."

{GOB_85_07}   THEN "Jesus wept." / He WEPT? / Why, Jesus, why?

{GOB_85_08}   Is yanking Laz from heaven cruelty? /

{GOB_85_09}   PERHAPS HE KNEW (as God would) when he'd raise

{GOB_85_10}   up Lazarus from death / when there's no doubt

{GOB_85_11}   he was the Son of God -- THIS WOULD NOT PHASE

{GOB_85_12}   THE JEWS who'd double down to take him out.

{GOB_85_13}   HOW DEEP in bullshit must these people be

{GOB_85_14}   to witness THIS / THEN nail Him to a tree?

GOSPEL OF BOKE {86 of 154} -- by BOKE (duh!)

{GOB_86_01}   "NO MORE WOULD JESUS WALK AMONGST THE JEWS."

{GOB_86_02}   (THE LAZ'RUS RESURRECTION TURNING POINT)

{GOB_86_03}   No parable would bring them to the pews

{GOB_86_04}   of God's Church {2.0}[two-dot-oh] Christ would anoint ...

{GOB_86_05}   ... with His own blood ... / ... but by the hands of MEN

{GOB_86_06}   WHO WERE REQUIRED to kill him in the tale,

{GOB_86_07}   but who STILL disappoint Christ / Who still sin

{GOB_86_08}   by executing plot points that we hail ...

{GOB_86_09}   ... as vict'ry over death in hymns we sing

{GOB_86_10}   in version {2.0}[two-dot-oh] of God's strange plan

{GOB_86_11}   (who's secret codename is "Let Freedom Ring")

{GOB_86_12}   to amplify THE FLOW 'tween GOD and MAN.

{GOB_86_13}   THE PROBLEM that postmodern prophets face

{GOB_86_14}   is fig'ring "how in hell" to make that case.

GOSPEL OF BOKE {87 of 154} -- by BOKE (duh!)

{GOB_87_01}   A GOSPEL CHOIR STARTS SINGING ... 'cause they know

{GOB_87_02}   just when a song's the only thing to say --

{GOB_87_03}   when preachin's gone as far as it can go

{GOB_87_04}   and music is the only card to play.

{GOB_87_05}   / Have mercy on the preacher / Let him rest /

{GOB_87_06}   / Dear Lord, for we are all most surely filled /

{GOB_87_07}   / The food at home's already been pre-blessed /

{GOB_87_08}   / The church communion wine has done been spilled /

{GOB_87_09}   / Have mercy on the preacher / Make him stop /

{GOB_87_10}   / He's pulled another page out of his coat /

{GOB_87_11}   / Send down an angel, Lord, to make him drop /

{GOB_87_12}   / his peroration / Hope that's all he wrote! /

{GOB_87_13}   (And as the choir is marching off the stage,

{GOB_87_14}   Lyle Lovett's lawyer's callin' 'bout this page.)

GOSPEL OF BOKE {88 of 154} -- by BOKE (duh!)

{GOB_88_01}   A FEW LIGHT YEARS AWAY a Monkey-bot

{GOB_88_02}   is playing on his cellphone with his tail

{GOB_88_03}   traversing a new monkey-saucer plot

{GOB_88_04}   that God's constructed / Should the Monkey fail ...

{GOB_88_05}   ... the arbitrary mission that this day

{GOB_88_06}   unfolded from a wormhole Boke had lost,

{GOB_88_07}   then God will ask Sweet Cow to hit RE-PLAY

{GOB_88_08}   and not Boke now 'cause he's already sauced ...

{GOB_88_09}   ... for Christmas dinner / browning in a pan

{GOB_88_10}   of his own juice that he's drained all the seeds

{GOB_88_11}   of new adventures starring Raisin Bran

{GOB_88_12}   and Chinese pudding-girl who always needs ...

{GOB_88_13}   ... new batteries / or Monkey might defeat

{GOB_88_14}   her in the game where She and Monkey meet.
